Debate: Old Earth Creationism vs Young Earth Creationism
From Debatepedia
[Edit] Is Old Earth Creationism compatible with belief in the Bible? |
|
[Edit] Background and ContextCreationists (those who oppose the theory of macroevolution first thought of by Charles Darwin in favour of belief in the Genesis account of the creation of the world and its inhabitants) have often been polarised over the issue of how old the date of the creation of the world should be, whether the six days of creation described in the Biblical account were 24 hour days, or whether they were "age-days", as the Hebrew word used for "day" in the passage could be used to desribe either a 24 hour period, the period of the day during which the sun is out, or an unspecified period of time. Those who take the first view are known as young Earth creationists (YEC), while patrons of the latter view are called old Earth creationists (OEC). This debate is to discuss which view fits best with the Bible, not which view is more scientifically plausible, for that can be debated at Debate: Age of the Earth. Those who wish to debate the plausibiltiy of creationism in general against Evolution can do so at Debate: Evolution, and the compatibility of Theistic Evolution with the Bible can be debated at Debate: Creationism vs Theistic Evolutionism. |
