Debate: Developing countries should have the same responsibilities as developed countries in combating global warming
From Debatepedia
[Edit] Background and contextThe climate change threatens to set the Earth undoubtly on the path to a unpredictably different climate. The Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change says that many parts of the planet will be warmer. Droughts, floods and other forms of extreme weather will become more frequent, threatening food supplies. Plants and animals which cannot adjust will die out. Sea levels are rising and will continue to do so, forcing hundreds of thousands of people in coastal zones to migrate. Therefore the most efficient, however most fair solutions are searched.

[Edit] [ ![]() The climate change is a world problem
[Edit] YesAs you cannot limit the consequences of actions that cause the climate changes only to country who causes them, the whole world should be involved equally when solving them otherwise the solutions will not work, therefore the developing countries should have the same responsibilities as developed countries when climate change problems are concerned Proof: CO2 emissions and substances causing are moved in clouds by wind, therefore even if the country itself does not produce these substances it can easily be effected and has no way of protecting itself'

[Edit] [ ![]() Effective solution
[Edit] YesWe never can come to an effective solution if the countries do not cooperate. Only when all countries join the solving process we can effectively analyse and solve the problems that are set up in the next step we can with joined powers in research proceed to find the correct solution, therefore the developing countries should have the same responsibilities as developed countries when climate change problems are concerned Proof: the most occuring solutions of climate problems were found by international teams of scientists that were able to asses and analyze the needed data

[Edit] [ ![]() Situation had changed
[Edit] YesThe knowledge about climate change and the situation itself changed drastically from the time when developed countries were developing. We cannot allow the scenario of destruction to repeat now we know and experience the consequences, therefore the developing countries should have the same responsibilities as developed countries when climate change problems are concerned Proof: the amount of CO2 in the atmosphere war raised by cca 33% during the period of industrial revolution
|
[Edit] NoThe developing countries need time to develop. When talking about developing countries we do not only talk about China and India, but also about smaller countries which fully depend on their economical development that is not is not ecologically friendly. It would not be possible for those countries to implement climate change policies as it would strongly weaken their economy, therefore the developing countries should not have the same responsibilities as developed countries when climate change problems are concerned Proof: Iran the 13th world biggest polluter has 42.9% of income through industry
|
[Edit] [ ![]() Developing countries have right to develop
[Edit] YesClick on the pencil icon and research and write arguments here
|
[Edit] NoEach country goes through different stages of development. Today's developed countries had the time and right to develop according to their need. Just because they caused a ecological harms to the society we should not ban nor limit developing countries right to develop, therefore the developing countries should not have the same responsibilities as developed countries when climate change problems are concerned Proof: there were no laws that limited industrial revolution in England, Netherlands,... when ecology is concerned
|
[Edit] [ ![]() Even some developed countries do nothing

|
[Edit] NoIn the current system we see many countries that try to look like they do care about the climate change and many treaties signed, but those countries have enough of economical or political power to get away and basically do nothing. Most of developing countries have neither political nor economical power therefore they will be forced to uphold all the rules set, therefore the developing countries should not have the same responsibilities as developed countries when climate change problems are concerned Proof: last actions taken at the G8 summit(or better said no real action taken at the G8 summit)
