Argument: Laser attackers must be exceptional shots to blind pilots
"Laser ban an 'overreaction'". ABC. 7 Apr. 2008 - Danger to pilots? Professor Michael Collins, at Queensland University of Technology's School of Optometry, says pilots face minimal danger from the lasers.
"You'd have to be a pretty good shot to get [the laser beam] directly into the pilot's eyes," he says.
"And the distance the pilots are from the source gives a great deal of protection."
